IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO NOT MAKE THESE SKINCARE MISTAKES AND SOME OF THEM YOU MAY HAVE NOT EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT BEFORE. I KNOW I’M PERSONALLY GUILTY OF COMMITTING SOME OF THESE SKINCARE CRIMES, ARE YOU?

WITH THESE 11 SKINCARE MISTAKES YOU CAN TEST HOW WELL YOU’VE BEEN TREATING YOUR SKIN AND IMPROVE YOUR ROUTINE!

1. Not Exfoliating

Exfoliating is such an important part of a healthy skin care routine. It takes off the dead skin and provides a clean canvas for your makeup or moisturizer. Exfoliating 2x per week with the perfect amount to keep your skin fresh.

2. Not applying sunscreen under the eyes

Everyone talks about SPF for the face but no one mentions about your under eyes! I find a lot of people skip out or don’t even think about adding it under the eyes. Not using sunscreen is 80% the cause of premature aging, so don’t skip out on applying your sunscreen under the eye area!

3. Not Moisturizing and Cleansing the Neck Area

It’s common to forget to the neck area, but you shouldn’t! Neglecting the neck can cause it to not look as fresh and healthy as the face. It is important to cleanse and moisture the neck to keep it hydrated and protect it from premature aging.

4. Skipping Nightly Moisturizer because you have Oily Skin

The classic myth: you do not need to moisturize because you have oily skin. This is not true! All skin types need moisturizer. Sometimes oily skin can even be a sign of underlying dryness that need to be tended to. Whether you have dry, oily or combo skin, you should always use a moisturizer before bed. Your skin’s metabolism is the highest at night, so nightly skincare is the most important.

5. Popping pimples that are cystic and that don’t have a whitehead

“don’t pop your pimples!” we have all heard someone say this to us. Popping pimples that are cystic or that do not have a white head can cause skin damage and permanent scaring. The only pimples that are safe to pop are the ones that have pus(a white head) and the surface. If you pop these, the pus will come out and the skin will bleed slightly. Then, apply salicylic acid on top to dry it out. Make sure when popping these whiteheads that you are using tissues or clean hands.

6. Skincare Mistakes:Over Exfoliating

As much as exfoliating is beneficial, its important not to over exfoliate. Too much can dry out your skin and make it red. It’s best to do this no more than twice per week.

7. Sleeping with Makeup On

I know this is a hard one to avoid, and I am guilty of it myself. Your skin needs to breathe at night, and sleeping with makeup on can clog your pores, causing acne, excess oil and also settles into fine lines. It is best to take your makeup off every night and do your nightly skin care routine.

8. Skincare Mistakes: Rubbing too Harshly

Avoid rubbing your skin. This can cause lines and unnecessary stretching of the skin. When washing your face – especially around the eye area – always take your time removing your makeup and be gentle.

9. Not using a foundation with SPF

If you don’t want to use a foundation with SPF, then make sure to apply it under your makeup everyday. A foundation with SPF is easier because it is only one step and you don’t have to remember to add sunscreen everyday.

10. Skipping hyaluronic acid

No matter what age or skin type you are, hyaluronic acid is super hydrating and should be incorporated into everyone’s skincare routine. This helps keep your skin plump, youthful and glowy. This is one of the best ingredients to have in your moisturizer.

11. Silk Pillowcases

Sleeping on a satin/silk pillowcase is good for your skin and hair. It helps to not squish the skin at night and is less rough against your face.
